Celebrating International Biodiversity Day with Crann, Ireland’s Trees Charity

Jun 18, 2025

To celebrate International  Biodiversity Day this year, our senior students were joined by Crann’s education team and Crann director PJ Fitzpatrick of Mullingar for an exciting and fun-filled biodiversity expedition in the stunning surrounds of Belvedere House. Crann is Ireland’s trees charity.

The students were thrilled to set off on a Wildflower Hunt ( a beautiful resource made by ‘Biodiversity in Schools’), and then PJ enthralled the group with stories and science on Ireland’s amazing native trees and all the biodiversity that trees support and nature. The students enjoyed learning about local and international wood carver-artist Richie Clarke too and his extraordinary sculpture of King Malachy’s Throne as we explored the picturesque Belvedere gardens and its fabulous ecosystems.

The school staff were hugely grateful to PJ and Crann for a wonderful day spent learning in the outdoor classroom without walls and exploring the beautiful natural world at Belvedere.
